William Patton Obituary

William M. Patton of Dublin, Ohio and Ft. Myers Beach, FL passed away at the age of 88 on April 6th 2026 at his home in Dublin, after a lengthy illness.  Bill was born on March 30th, 1938 to Earl and Bernadine Patton.  He attended St. Charles Preparatory School and Xavier University.  He was a member of the 121st Tactical Air Fighter Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard and served overseas during the Berlin Crisis of 1961-1962.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son Michael and grandson Ryan and his brother James.

He is survived by his wife Dena, his sister Sue Litzinger, his daughters Christine (Mike) Young, and Bernadine (Larry) Fox, sons Patrick and William (Kim) Patton Jr., daughter-in-law Carol Patton; his grandchildren Christine Patton, Elijah (Alison) Patton, Faith and Lily Young, Preston Patton, Kathleen (Marc) Kipp, Joseph, Tyler, Hailey and Lauren Patton; great-grand children Alivia, Hannah, Kora and Bryson and great-great grandchildren Karmen and Ezekiel, as well as his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill’s career as a General Contractor began early while working for his uncle, Henry Justus.  He started his own firm in the mid 80’s and continued doing what he loved to do until his retirement in 2015.  He took a brief break from this work in the early 80’s to join his brother Jim as co-owner and Vice President of Patton Wallcovering.

Bill’s love of all things water and boating started early in his childhood as his family spent time living, boating and fishing on Buckeye Lake, trips to Florida and fishing trips to northern Canada.  Bill and his first wife Kathy raised 5 wonderful children and they instilled in them the importance of faith and family.   The love of boating, fishing and family trips in their infamous motor home was a priority and created memories that will last a lifetime.  Bill and his wife Dena married in 1985 and were blessed to spend 40 wonderful years together, at which time his family continued to grow, creating so many more memories.

Bill’s happy place was always on his boat, or any boat for that matter.  Of the many activities Bill participated in or the many organizations he belonged to, his favorite places (other than on a boat of course!) will always be sitting on the lanai at his Florida condo watching boats go by, on the banks of the French River in Canada or on the deck at the Scioto Boat Club in Columbus, where he was a life member and a Past Commodore.

The family wishes to thank the incredible staff of Ohio Health Home Reach Hospice for the compassionate and wonderful care they provided for the past 18 months.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 1st at 11am at Saint Christopher Church, 1420 Grandview Ave, Columbus, OH 43212 where the family will begin receiving visitors at 10am. Following the service there will be a celebration of Bill’s life at the Scioto Boat Club, 3232 Indian Village Rd, Columbus, OH 43221.  A private Committal Service for the immediate family will be held on Saturday, May 2nd.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to either St. Charles Preparatory School, either online or to 2010 E. Broad Street, Bexley, OH 43209 or to Ohio Health Home Reach Hospice at 800 McConnell Dr, Columbus, OH 43214.
