Walter Edward Hughes, age 88, passed away on Wednesday July 27, 2022.
Walter was born in Marion, Ohio on March 9, 1934. He graduated from Rosary High School in Columbus Ohio in 1952. Walter served honorably in the United States Regular Army from 1953 through 1956 and in the reserves until 1961. He was stationed in Germany for much of his time in the service.
Walt worked for Lester B. Martin and Associates for many years before purchasing the company himself in 1976. As president of his own advertising and imprinting business he was active in many local organizations such as the Agonis Club. Among others, he was a Veteran Life Member in the Charity Newsies. He was recently recognized as a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason for his 50 years of service. He owned Morgan horses throughout his life and particularly enjoyed riding in the local Alladin Temple Morgan Horse Patrol. He also enjoyed fishing and boating for many years with family and friends. He retired in 1990 and later sold his company.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anna-Belle Margaret “Peggy” Hughes, his brother Thomas and Barbara (Wagner) Hughes, and his parents Walter and Blanche (Rapp) Hughes .
He is survived by step-children Paul Roberts Drake II (Martha), Diane Drake Haskins (Todd), Cheryl Drake Bater (Mark); step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Friday at the EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 KENNY RD. where the Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Msgr. John Cody officiating. Burial to follow at Union Cemetery.
