Virginia “Ginny” Beals, 78, of Columbus, OH, died Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Wesley Glen Memory Community after living with Parkinson’s and Dementia for several years.
Ginny was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and amazing friend to all who knew her.
Ginny was born in Brooklyn, NY, March 23, 1946, the daughter of James and Virginia (McCann) Allaire. She met her best friend and future husband, David Beals, in Washington D.C. while attending Trinity College. The two were married on February 16, 1969 in Arcadia, CA.
Ginny was an educator, activist, quilter, knitter, traveler, a lover of puzzles, and canned peas. An avid reader, Ginny enjoyed her book club and especially loved mysteries. She was gentle, supportive, and hilarious, enjoyed a good dirty martini, and preferred the second Kill Bill movie over the first.
Ginny is survived by her husband of 55 years, David; their daughters, Jamie Beals (Portland, ME) and Caitlin Beals (Columbus, OH): her brothers, James Allaire (Cheryl) (St. Cloud, MN) and Neil (Lois Vanderkooi) (Broomfield, CO); sister-in-law, Ann Allaire (Coralville, IA); sister-in-law, Dennise Allaire (Longmont, CO); sister-in-law Georgia Luciene (John) (Orange, CA); numerous nieces and nephews; and, an enormous number of friends.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Douglas Allaire.
According to Robert Frost, “…nothing gold can stay.” Ginny’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts that cannot be filled; and, while the grief is immense, so is the joy as we remember how much better our lives are because we knew her.
A celebration of life will be held from 1pm to 4pm, Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Mozart’s, 4784 N. High St., Columbus, OH.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ginny’s memory may be made to the Gil Taiber Scholarship Fund (Community Foundation of NE Iowa), The Ian Van Heyde Memorial Culinary Scholarship Fund (The Columbus Foundation), Total Healthworks (fund #2593), or your local food bank.
