Thomas A. Brown “T.A.B”, age 84, of Columbus, passed away on October 18 at Riverside Hospital of heart failure. He was born in Youngstown OH to Joseph & Margaret (Oneil) Brown. Tom enjoyed life in Cadiz OH, where he developed a lifelong passion for cars. Graduated with a BS Degree from Duquesne University, where he was honored, along with brother Bill, as first initiates in the prestigious Century Club. He was US Army 1st Lt. Infantry Company Commander, MAG member and earned numerous service awards, including: Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Stars (2 Awards – Valor), Bronze Star (3 Awards Valor), Purple Heart, Award of Merit-Republic of Iran. Tom’s business career achievements included: Personnel Director with Campbell Soup Co., Executive VP F & R Lazarus, leadership roles for Batus Retail Group (President Frederick & Nelson, CEO Breuner Co. & Vice Chairman Gimbel’s East), Board Consultant to Platt Music, owner of Nationaline Plumbing Fixture Corp., and concluded as a Business Consultant and Investor. Throughout Tom’s professional life, he enjoyed mentoring talent, including his son Terry & friend Jay Marzano. Proceeded in death by his parents and brother William J. Brown. Tom is dearly missed by his wife Rita Montoney Brown; children Terry Brown and Margaret Hedrick; grandchildren Ashlee & Brooke Brown, and Zach, Erin, & Kacie Hedrick; along with many friends, who will especially miss his superior talent for pulling off jokes & sharing humorous stories (some accurate). Per Tom’s request he was cremated and asked there be no services for him. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in early Spring 2022. Friends who wish may contribute in his memory to the American Heart Assoc., Diabetes Assoc., or a favorite charity.
