Stephen Gilmore

Stephen Paul Gilmore, age 69, of Bexley, OH passed to eternal life on Thursday, October 12, 2023. He was born in Rochester, NY on July 28, 1954, the youngest son of Bernard and Frances Gilmore.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Florence Fongheiser (William) and Ellen Clarke (Ed), and brothers John Gilmore (Joyce) and James Gilmore (Maureen). He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years Marilyn Kuchta and many nieces and nephews. Throughout Steve’s life, music was a constant source of satisfaction and passion. In his youth, he taught himself guitar and piano, while also singing in choirs and playing trombone throughout high school and college. Later, Steve performed and taught music in central Ohio for more than 25 years.    He was a member of numerous big bands, jazz bands, pit orchestras and groups such as the Cardinal Health Orchestra, Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and Clintonville Community Band. He served as a regular cantor at St Catharine parish where he was a longtime member. Besides music, Steve enjoyed traveling, cooking, and watching Blue Jackets hockey.  

Friends may call Tuesday Oct. 17 from 4-7 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. BROAD ST.    Mass of Christian Burial will be Weds. Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine Church, 500 S. Gould Rd.  Burial will Friday 12:00 NOON at St. Michael Cemetery, Newton Falls, Ohio.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite musical charity.
