It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of the beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Stanley R. Salva of Shadyside, Ohio. He passed away after a long battle with cancer on September 12th, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio at OSU James Cancer Center. Stanley left behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a deep passion for the outdoors. He is survived by his wife Gloria (DelGuzzo) Salva, son Jay Salva (Katie Salva/wife), daughter Joy (Salva) Bonar (Rusty Kitzmiller/fiancé), Ryan Salva (grandson), Derek & Megan Bonar (grandson/wife), Faith Bonar (granddaughter), Ila Salva (granddaughter), Rhett Salva (grandson), and great-grandchildren Anthony & Annalynn Salva.
Born on March 1st, 1946, Stanley was always a person of strength and unwavering support for his family and friends throughout his entire life. He was born and raised in the Ohio Valley, where he grew up amidst the natural beauty that would come to define his love for the outdoors. He loved to fish and to tend his garden, where you could usually find him picking berries.
As a young man, he learned the value of hard work and dedication, principles he carried with him throughout his life. Stanley was a veteran of the United States Army and then worked in the coal mine and steel mill for multiple decades afterwards.
Stanley was a dedicated provider and a loving husband. He met the love of his life, Gloria. Their bond was one of enduring devotion, a testament to their lifelong commitment to each other, especially as he washed all of her dishes after each time she cooked in their kitchen. Together, they raised a beautiful family, teaching their children the importance of love and the joy of spending quality time together.
As a father, Stanley was a constant source of guidance and support, instilling in his children a strong work ethic and a passion for the outdoors. In his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, he continued to spread his wisdom and love, creating lasting bonds with each generation. Stanley’s love and devotion to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were evident in the time that he spent with them, the stories that he told them, and his interests of fishing and baseball that he shared with them.
While we mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, we also celebrate the life he lived and the love he shared. Stanley will forever remain in our hearts as a shining example of hard work and unwavering support. His legacy will live on in the memories of those he touched, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he so generously gave.
A celebration of Stanley's life will take place on Saturday, October 7th from 1:00pm - ? at the Shadyside Community Center.
May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory bring comfort and strength to all who knew and loved him.
