Sr. Ruth Hamel, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Ruth Hamel died at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse, Columbus, OH on March 27, 2023. She was born in 1959 in Detroit, MI and in 1996 entered the Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of St. Rose of Lima of St. Joseph Convent, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. She earned her BA in Theology from Ohio Dominican University. She ministered at St. Mary’s Retreat House (Oxford, MI), Lourdes Senior Community (Waterford, MI) and Immaculate Conception Parish(Columbus,OH). She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel James Hamel, Sr. and Sarah Joan Knight Hamel, her brother, Gary M. Michael and her sister, Mary Hamel. She is survived by brothers, Daniel J. Hamel and James Hamel, sisters, Nancy J. Fretland, Mary L. Larsen and Lori Ane Hamel as well as many nieces and nephews.  A Wake and Vigil of Remembrance Service will be held at the Columbus Motherhouse Chapel at 4:45 p.m. on March 31, 2023, with the wake continuing until 7:00 p.m.  The funeral liturgy will be held at the Columbus Motherhouse Chapel at 9:00 AM on April 1, 2023, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery by Egan-Ryan Funeral Home.
