Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Rose Bowen, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on February 2, 2024. She was born in 1926 in New Orleans, LA and in 1946 entered the congregation of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary’s New Orleans, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace.
Sr. Rose earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Dominican College, New Orleans, Master’s Degree in English from Catholic University of America, Master’s Degree in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, Master’s Degree in Pastoral Theology from Loyola University, New Orleans and a PhD in Humanities from Florida State University. She taught as a professor of higher education in LA and FL and served on the leadership team of the St. Mary’s New Orleans congregation.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Henrietta Mackenroth Bowen, her brother William and her sister Wilfrida Bowen Capponi. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
A vigil of remembrance and wake will be held at 4:45 PM on February 8, 2024, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH.
A funeral liturgy will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel at 10:00 AM on February 9, 2024. Burial will be at a later date in Ponchatoula, LA. Funeral services in the Columbus area by Egan-Ryan Funeral Home.
