Sr. Maureen Flanagan, OP Obituary

Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Maureen Flanagan died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on February 23, 2026. She was born February 26, 1939 in Lowell, MA and in 1957 entered the Dominican Sisters, St. Catherine, KY, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

She earned a certification as a Dietary Aide and ministered in education. She served in various food service capacities in Massachusetts serving children, veterans, and clergy. As well as found her calling to service at the Sansbury Infirmary in Kentucky and at Rosary Manor in Watertown, Massachusetts. She was best known for her skills at cake creations making most of the baptismal cakes for her family and others and received special acclaim for creating the largest cake shaped as the American flag for a veterans celebration in Massachusetts.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents William and Edna Trott Flanagan, her brother Daniel G. Flanagan, her niece Heather Flanagan, her aunt Sister M. Evangela Trott, OP and her uncles Reverend Thomas F Flanagan, OMI, Reverend Francis D. Flanagan, OMI and aunt Mary Flanagan. She is survived by her sister Joyce Lloyd and her husband Reverend Barry V. Lloyd, her brother William and his wife  Dorothy Flanagan, and sister-in-law Sandra Flanagan.

She was known as Aunt Sis and adored by her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is survived by niece Kathleen Fitzpatrick and her husband Robert and three children Molly, Shannon and Abbey; niece Beth Engelsman and her husband David and three children Taylor, Emma and Sarah; niece Erin Lloyd and her daughter Caitlyn and grandson James; nephew Barry Lloyd, Jr. and his wife Denise and their children Ryan and Brennan; nephew Tim Lloyd and his partner Ali;nephew Greg Lloyd and his wife Renee and their children Nathanael, Noah, Micah, Hannah, Ezra, Judah, Joseph, Xander and Benjamin; niece Corinne Corbin and husband Frank and their son Andrew; niece Jennifer Pintal and husband Paul; niece Leslie DeMelio and husband Stephen and their children Ashlinn, Heather, Bria; and great niece Karin Aryes and husband Brian and their children Sophia, Maddison, and Oliver; niece Megan Flanagan and partner Brandon and children Gavin and Lucas; and great nephew David son of the late Heather Flanagan.

Sr. Maureen touched many people and she had so many close friends. The family wish recognize Fr. Ron St. Pierre, Gail Mackin, Carol Morrison, Beth Sheehan, and Carol Ann Aloisi.

A Vigil of Remembrance Service will be held at 4:30 PM on Monday, March 9, 2026 at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH.

The funeral liturgy will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery by Egan-Ryan Funeral Home.
