Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Malya Carusi died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on October 7, 2023. She was born in 1919 in New Haven, CT and in 1939 entered the congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Sister earned her degree from the College of St. Mary of the Springs now Ohio Dominican University. She taught in schools in Michigan, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, and in the Columbus diocese at Sacred Heart, Coshocton, St. Thomas, Zanesville, and in Columbus at Holy Spirit and Christ the King. She also ministered at Holy Name Parish in pastoral ministry, an Aide at Hartley Community for the Elderly, and became a cosmetologist to serve the retired sisters in Mohun Health Care.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Carusi and Adele Cantore Carusi, and her sister, Dolores Rochlus. A Vigil of Remembrance Service will be held on October 17,2023 at 4:45 p.m. at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH with the wake continuing until 7:00 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel on October 18, 2023 at 9:00 am followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery by Egan Ryan Funeral Home.
