Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister June Engelbrecht died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on January 25, 2025. She was born in 1940 in New Orleans, LA and in 1959 entered the St. Mary New Orlean’s Dominican Sisters, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Sr. June earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in biology and secondary education from St. Mary’s Dominican College, a Master of Arts Degree in Religious Studies from Providence College, and a Master of Divinity from Immaculate Conception Seminary. She also completed a Clinical Pastoral Education program from St. Raphael in New Haven. She taught in elementary and high schools in New Orleans, was a pastoral minister in Louisiana, and a staff member at Rosaryville Spirit Life Center. She was a Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator for North Oaks Hospice. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Alma Patterson Engelbrecht and her brother, Reverend Henry Engelbrecht. She is survived by several cousins. A Vigil of Remembrance Service will be held on February 3, 2025, at 4:45 p.m. at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, Ohio. The funeral liturgy will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel on February 4, 2025, at 9:30 am. Burial at a later date at Rosaryville Cemetery in New Orleans.
