Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Joan Popovits died in Columbus OH on Sunday September 26, 2021. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May, 11,1944 and in 1962 entered the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus Ohio, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. She earned degrees from Ohio Dominican College in Columbus and St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. She first ministered at St. George’s Hospital in Cincinnati, OH and then as a Pastoral Minister in New Haven, CT, Plainville, CT, Warren, MI, Jenison, MI and for the last 17 years at Holy Spirit/St. Philip Parishes in Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Goldie Popovits and her brother Joseph Popovits. She is survived by her sister-in-law Kathy Popovits and several nieces and nephews. A public visitation will take place on Monday, October 4 from 6-8 and a Vigil Service will take place at Holy Spirit Church, 4383 East Broad Street. A private service will be held at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse Chapel followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
