Sr. Elizabeth Chickory, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Elizabeth Chickory died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on April 30, 2026.  She was born in 1935 in Astoria, NY and in 1953 entered the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

Sr. Elizabeth earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from St. Mary of the Springs College, now Ohio Dominican University and her MS in Library Science from Duquesne University. She served as an elementary teacher in Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, as a high school librarian in Connecticut and Pennsylvania and as Assistant Director of Human Resources for the Dominican Sisters. She received certification in Pastoral Ministry for the Elderly and ministered at the Connecticut Community Center, St. Regis Health Center and Woodbridge Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Elizabeth Campbell Chickory, her brothers Joe and Thomas Chickory and her sister Ellen Menton.

A vigil of remembrance and wake will be held at 4:30 PM on May 6, 2026, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH.

The funeral liturgy will take place at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel at 9:30 AM on May 7, 2026, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
