Sally Griffiths Blue Obituary

Sally Griffiths Blue, age 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 15, 2024.  In life, she amassed a wealth of love and respect that she graciously bestowed upon others. She leaves her lovely and talented daughters, Erin (Colin), Shannon (David), Rylie and Regan and her brilliant grandchildren: Madison, Owen, Lauren, Jimmy and Alexis. She will miss, and be sorely missed by her husband Dan Brown. The daughter of Edward “E.S.” and Blanche Griffiths, Sally has been a constant illuminating presence in Upper Arlington (H.S. 1957) and The Ohio State University (B.A. 1961, and graduate studies). She served on the Board of Trustees for Libraries in UA and at OSU and as a national library information services delegate. She has served with distinction for many and various organizations, including the YWCA, the Wexner Center, Shadowbox, North Market, Amethyst, Directors Circle Council, Northwest Mental Health, Childhood League, UA PTOs, Pleasure Guild of Children's Hospital, Wellington School Parents' Board, Twig 102, Kappa Kappa Gamma and the Women’s Board of First Community Church.  Having successfully raised four daughters, she embarked upon a career, first as program manager for Jobs for Columbus Graduates, and then as development director/event planner for the Columbus AIDS Task Force, Ohio's Make-a-Wish Foundation and Franklin County Residential Services. Along the way she has received many awards, commendations and other recognitions: Northwest Women of the Year in 2004; recognition in 2005 as one of the twenty most influential women in Columbus by the Breast Cancer Coalition; 2014 AIDS Resource Center award for development/enhancement of "Art for Life"; 2016 Ohio Cancer Research recognition for caring fund-raising; and 2016 Shadowbox recognition for development initiatives. She has recently served on the Leadership Board of the Columbus Foundation. Her daughters, grandchildren and many friends recognize that she has been a positive influence on, and for, many people. She will be missed, tremendously.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 1:30 p.m.  at the Burkhart Chapel at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd.  Private burial at Union cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dup15q Alliance, 250 N Trade St, Ste 205 PMB 155 Matthews, NC 28105.
