Russell Thibaut Obituary

Russell Albert Thibaut was born at home to Eugene and Katie (Kata Bubalo) Thibaut at 2350 Ehring Road in Columbus, Ohio on February 26, 1932 and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Preceded in death by parents Eugene and Katie and sister Mildred (Thibaut) Fasone. Remembered by loving wife of nearly 50 years, Marian, sister Joanne (Thibaut) Neidenthal, children Glenda Crawford (Patrick), Rhonda Selhorst (Robert), Russell Thibaut (Denise), Randy Thibaut (Kim), Patrick Henry, Cheryl Pond (Bill), and Jami Moretti (Tim), 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and a wealth of close friends.

Russell attended Sacred Heart Elementary, St. Aquinas High School, and served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was a proud Redcoat for The Ohio State University Buckeyes from 1970 to 2004, Memorial Tournament volunteer from 1976 to 2017, and faithful active member of Cursillo Retreat since the beginning in 1972. After retiring as an architectural engineer for the State of Ohio, Russ later moved to The Villages, Florida with his wife for several years before returning to Columbus.

Russ was an avid golfer and bowler. He loved to travel, driving with his wife across country, and of course he was the BIGGEST Buckeye fan in the world. He had a servant’s heart, was a loyal friend, husband, attentive son, brother, father and loving grandpa. He was a Christ centered man, loved his faith and never took his Catholicism for granted; a true Catholic gentleman.  He will be terribly missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday March 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Peace Church 20 E.
