Ronald McHam Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Hurst McHam—a loving partner,
proud father, loyal friend, and a man who found joy in life’s quiet moments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Elaine, and his brother, Gene. He is
survived by his beloved partner, Judy Sanford; his four daughters, Erin (Colin) Gawel, Shannon
(David) Ruma, Rylie McHam, and Regan McHam; and his five loving grandchildren, Madison
Pickett, Owen Gawel, Lauren and Alexis Ruma, and Jimmy Trueman. His faithful dogs were
never far from his side—constant companions who brought him comfort and joy.

Ron graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1957 and The Ohio State University in
1961, where he was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He began his career as a
food broker and went on to serve as president of both the Columbus Food Brokerage Association
and the Columbus MGF Representatives Association. He also served on the Upper Arlington
Board of Zoning.

Ron’s life was defined by a deep appreciation for the simple things. He found happiness in
everyday pleasures: laughing with friends, enjoying a round of golf, playing gin rummy, cheering
on the Buckeyes, listening to country music, watching old movies, solving Sudoku puzzles, and
spending peaceful days at home with Judy and their dogs.

For over 50 years, Ron was a member of Scioto Country Club, where he served on the board of
trustees for three years. There, among the fairways and greens, he found more than a game—he
found a community. Golf brought him peace, purpose, and a lifelong circle of cherished
friendships. His connections ran deep, shaped over decades of shared rounds, inside jokes, and
fun times. Among his many golf tournaments, the Tiffin Open held a special place in his
heart—he was a six-time champion.

Ron will be remembered for the laughter he sparked and the friendships he treasured. He leaves
behind a legacy of love, joy, and an enduring appreciation for life’s gentle rhythms. A
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Friends who wish may contribute to their favorite charity in his memory.
