Robert Stoddart Cahill

Robert Stoddart Cahill, born on May 1, 1933, passed away on June 18, 2024, at 91 years old.  He is survived by his wife Eloise Buker, of 49 years, his brother in law, Jeff Zettler, his nieces and nephews, Frank and Frances Reed, Steve and Brenda Reed, Jeffrey Zettler and Patti Zettler and Matt Jordan, and his great nieces and nephews: Emily Reed Pereira and Marcus Pereira, Robert Reed, Ryan Reed, Charles McCorkle-Reed, Arete McCorkle-Reed, Eddie Jordan, and Lily Jordan.  His son, Christopher Sean Cahill, his sisters in law, Barbara Reed and Patricia Zettler preceded him in death. 

He got his undergraduate degree from Reed College and his doctorate from the University of Oregon. 

He was a professor of political science at the University of Hawai’i for over 25 years, a leader in the university community and a prominent voice in Hawai'i state politics.   His scholarship and community work focused on achieving justice for people of color and women.  He loved music and wrote for the guitar, ukulele, and keyboard.  He was courageous and kind, sustained by his Christian faith.  He was a wonderful loving husband; and cherished being “Uncle Bob.”  

Friends may call Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 9-10 a.m. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 East Broad Street where a Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m.  A private burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. 

 In lieu of flowers, donations to Southern Poverty Law Center, University of Hawai’i, Department of Political Science, or other similar organizations would be appreciated.
