It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather Richard Thomas Bond (86) on Thursday December 12th. Born May 22, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to William and Lucille Bond. Rick was a devout Catholic his entire life. He proudly graduated from St. Mary’s High School in German Village in 1957. While there Richard was an accomplished athlete in football and basketball. It’s there he met his beloved wife of 66 years Patricia (Lanigan) Bond. He went on to marry his high-school sweetheart one year later in 1958. Rick was a family man who enjoyed taking his family to the beaches of Maryland and South Carolina. There he’d watch the sunrise every opportunity he got. In his free time he enjoyed bowling, playing cards and driving with his friends. Later in life Richard would become a faithful member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church. There he ushered for many years and attended the Saturday morning men’s bible studies. Oh and you can’t forget his Buckeyes, of whom he was such an avid fan, he themed his whole basement for them.
He was preceded in death by parents, William Sr. and Lucille Bond, a brother, William Bond Jr.; and a sister Patricia Cooperider.
Richard is survived by wife Patricia Bond; daughter of love, Susan Beh; children Tim (Deanna) Bond, Beth Bond, Susan (Perry) Rutherford; grandchildren, Candice (Nathaniel) Rutherford, Debbie (Douglas) Sarmir, Kevin (Jessica) Bond, Kailyn Bond, Colleen (Cortni Taylor) Bond and Austin Rutherford; a great-grandchild, Lillian Sarmir; two brothers, Michael Bond and Patrick Bond; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Bond; as well as a multitude of family and friends.
Richard was a well loved man and will forever hold a place in our hearts. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, December 18. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church (Dublin) on Thursday, December 19th at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
