Patricia Wilson Obituary

Patricia Cullen Wilson passed away peacefully into her heavenly reward on January 24, 2018. She wasborn July 2, 1923, daughter of Rodney and Julia Cullen of New Lexington, Ohio. Pat always felt she had a blessed childhood. Her parents encouraged her artistic talents with piano, art and dancing lessons. She was also a brilliant scholar and graduated from St Aloysius Academy in New Lexington at the age of 16. Pat received 2 academic college scholarship offers. After attending Ohio University for a year, she graduated from St. Mary of the Springs College (Ohio Dominican University) in 1946 with a degree in Theology and Sociology. Her deep devotion to God was manifested by taking vows as a Third Order Dominican with the name Sister Rose of Lima, O.P. Throughout her life she was involved in many charitable causes. She was President of the Women’s Society at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Newtown Square, PA. She was a founding charter member of Christ Child Society. She served on the board for Our Lady of the Elms Academy in Akron. Pat also volunteered at St. Stephens Community Center. Her final charitable act was the donation of her body to Ohio State Medical School. She was a giving and loving woman and everyone who knew her benefited. Pat had a great love of the arts. She was a talented dancer for 17 years, including studying modern dance with Martha Graham. She acted in college theatre productions. Throughout her life she enjoyed symphony and jazz concerts, art museums, and ballet performances. She was a former President of the Tempo Symphony unit.
Everyone knew of Pat’s love of golf. It started when her father and a couple of others built a golf course in Perry County. She took up golf at the age of 16 and later in life she would say, “Do you believe that I played golf for over 70 years!” She was a member of the women’s league at Portage County Club in Akron and a member of Scioto Country Club. She also played in other golf leagues, including St. Andrew’s and St. Agatha’s. Pat had a knack for coming home with the lowest putts prize. Her family owned a department store in New Lexington which is where Pat gained her sense of style.
She always had the latest fashions and all the matching accessories. Even when she was in retirement living, she was voted “best dressed”. She explained her vast collection of accessories and costume jewelry as “my hobby”. Her other hobby was sending cards to one and all for each and every occasion. After graduating from College, she had a job as the receptionist at the General Motors Plant. This is where she met the love of her life, Jerry Schlass. They were married on October 22, 1949 at Holy Name Church in Columbus. Throughout their lives together they shared a common devotion to God and their three children. They were focused on providing the best education possible for their children and fostered the talents of each individually, in sports and artistic pursuits. Jerry traveled the world for his job and Pat felt very privileged that he was permitted to bring her along. She would say “what a treat!” Pat was predeceased by her parents, sister Marilyn Lewis, husband Jerome Schlass, and youngest daughter, Mary Pat Joss. She leaves behind her loving family: son Gregory Schlass (Margaret) of Wexford, PA, daughter Julianne Mackenzie (John) of Jacksonville FL, son-in- law Gregory Joss of Lafayette CO, grandchildren, Kurt Schlass (Lana), Erik Schlass, Margaret Schlass, Melissa Joss, Hannah Joss, and great grandchildren, Dylan, Colin, Caitlin, Jonas, Keela and Kaydence. She will also be missed by nieces, cousins and friends. There will be a Memorial Service at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church in Dublin, OH at 11 am on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. There will be a visitation at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018.  In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to: Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road Irondale, AL, 35210 or https:donations.ewtn.com
