Pappachan Ettoop Kolattukudy, age 88, passed away on January 4, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Born in India, Dr. Kolattukudy immigrated to the United States to pursue his education, earning a PhD in biochemistry from Oregon State University and embracing scientific research as a way of life for 59 years. He served as a professor at Washington State University, Director of Biotechnology at The Ohio State University, and later as Dean of the Burnett College of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Central Florida. Over his distinguished career, he authored more than 375 scientific publications and mentored over a hundred scientists in the fields of plant biotechnology, tuberculosis, and ischemic heart disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ettoop and Annama Kolattukudy, and his siblings, Augustine, Mariam, and Kochappan. He is survived by his children: Annie Kolattukudy; Lynda (Todd) Raymond; Mary (Bobby) Brandon; Angela Gies; Joey Kolattukudy; and Sunny (Brandy) Kolattukudy. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Bruce, Casey, Daniel, Casanndra, Keegan, Wyatt, Rachel, Lillian, Sam, Julian, Darian, and his beloved princess, Luna; and by his great-grandchildren: Maliek, Jessa, Wesley, Uriah, Levi, Silas, Waylon, Zoey, Aria, Remington, and Scarlett. Family will receive friends at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus, Ohio, on Monday, January 12, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 13, at 10am at Saint Andrew Church, Upper Arlington, Ohio. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio.
