Mrs. Nathalie S. Durrant passed away peacefully at Friendship Village of Dublin with family members at her side, on Saturday, May 29th, just a few days short of her 99th birthday.
Born June 7th, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward E. Smith and the late Leantha H. Smith and the wife for 67 years of the late William E. Durrant Sr.
She is survived by her two children, William E. Durrant Jr. (Donna) and Charles E. Durrant (Teresa).
She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Deverre Lierman, Deanna Conti (Chris), Lori Cardamone (Joe)and William J. Durrant (Carolee) and11 great grandchildren, Lexi Lierman, Abby Lierman, Hope Cardamone, Faith Cardamone, Marcello Cardamone, Mario Cardamone, Sophia Cardamone, Ashleigh Sieber –Durrant, Isaac Durrant, Sarah Krajci and Evan Krajci.
Nathalie graduated from Columbus East High School and The Ohio State University where she was a member of the Pi Phi sorority. She was a Phi Beta Kappa later while earning a Master’s degree.
She and her husband lived for over 50 years in Canterbury Village in Upper Arlington and were founding members of the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. She taught English at Columbus Central and Columbus Walnut Ridge high schools for over 30 years.
Along with her avid church work she was a gifted gardener and a member of Power Squadron. She and Gene also traveled most of the U.S. in their Airstream.
The Durrant family would like to thank her friends and caregivers with special thanks to the staff at Friendship Village of Dublin and Capital City Hospice. She was loved and cared for wonderfully.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 7th – her 99th birthday – from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel, (4661 Kenny Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43220). The funeral service will be held on June 8 at 11:00 am at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, (2300 Lytham Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43220). Burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery.
