Michael J. McVey, age 78, of Columbus passed away surrounded by family at Mount Carmel East after a brief and unexpected battle with cancer. He was born on November 24, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Jerry and Marie (Mahoney) McVey.
Michael was a retired Union carpenter after many years with Turner Construction. He enjoyed using his skills to complete projects around the house and for others. When he wasn’t working inside, you could find him in the garage with his 48 Ford Coupe street rod. He enjoyed taking it to all the car shows where it won many awards over the years. The only thing he loved more than his beloved car was his family. He was married to the love of his life (Jackie) for 33 years until she passed in 2022. He deeply loved his grandchildren. Spending time with them always brought him so much happiness and they cherished all of the memories they were able to make together. He was a passionate storyteller who could always make you smile, no matter how many times you may have heard the very same story. Michael was always an avid beagle lover and had many dogs throughout the years. He was a huge Buckeye fan and enjoyed watching football on the weekends. He was also a proud US Navy veteran who served his country during Vietnam.
He is survived by his two sons James (Crystal) McVey of Orient and Patrick (Jill) McVey of Columbus; his sister, Cathy (Joe) Morock of Lewis Center; his brother, Tim McVey of Columbus; three grandchildren, Mackenzie McVey, Emma McVey and Daisy McVey; many nieces and nephews; and loving neighbors John and Tina Moss.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jacqueline McVey; sister, Patty Goodwin; infant siblings, Mickey and Jerry McVey.
Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 East Broad Street where a Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
