This world will miss the bright smile of Mary McGinty Bourke as she passes into the next. She loved Sunday dinners with her family, visiting her son and daughter-in-law in Charleston, SC, going to plays and concerts with her husband, traveling with her sisters, visiting with her sisters-in-law, reading and her book club, trips to Napa with friends & family, hearing of her past students’ success, watching the Hallmark Channel, staying in touch with her college roommates, holidays & family traditions, and livening up any gathering of friends.
Most of all, she loved, and was loved by her family.
Mary was born October 6, 1955 to Dick & Mary McGinty in Southern California and moved to the Eastmoor neighborhood of Columbus later that year. She was a lifelong member of St. Catharine Church and attended its elementary school (which her sons later attended) before going to Bishop Hartley High School (which one of her sons also attended). She studied education at the University of Dayton and graduated in 1977. She also met the love of her life there and married him at St. Catharine Church in 1978. She spent more than twenty-five years as a special education teacher, many at Siebert Elementary, before retiring in 2021.
She is survived by her husband (David), sons (Patrick, Michael, & J.D.), daughters-in-law (Jenny Ferrara & Rachael Finigan), sisters (Maureen Deutch & Patty Snyder), cherished family friend (Bette Sammet), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind countless friends who will miss her dearly. She has joined her parents, her husband’s parents, sister (Kathleen MacKinnon) and cousin (Teri Doyle Stec) in heaven.
Friends and family may call at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home (403 E. Broad St.) on May 2nd from 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30am on May 3rd at St. Catharine Church (500 S. Gould Rd.). A private burial will take place at a later date. Following the Funeral Mass on Saturday, the family would like to invite guests back to the residence for a reception.
