Mary Judith Stattmiller (Judy) died peacefully on August 21, 2024. She was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1936. She was predeceased by her parents, John Edward and Catherine Hayes Stattmiller, brother James F. Stattmiller and her nephew Brady Gaines Ackland. She is survived by her daughter Laura Maria Niday and husband Steven and her son William B. Stattmiller. Also, by one grandchild Anthony Stattmiller. She is also survived by her brother, Rev. Father John E. Stattmiller, retired, Otway, Ohio, and sisters Clarissa Stattmiller Asp, Knoxville, TN, Kathryn Stattmiller Ackland, Sebastopol, CA and her sister-in-law Mrs. Debora Stattmiller of Minneapolis, MN. Nephews and nieces: Bill Asp (Tera) of Atlanta, GA, Kathy Asp Samples (Mike) Knoxville, TN, Seth Stattmiller (Elizabeth) Minneapolis, MN, Anna Stattmiller Bonelli (David), Washington DC, Kaleb Stattmiller (Kate) Minneapolis, MN and Sylas Stattmiller (Adirita) and their daughter, Nayira; and great nieces and nephews: Megan and Matthew Samples, Audrey and Lily Asp, Hugo and Zola Bonelli and Abe and Seymour Stattmiller and their daughter, Nayira. Judy was a graduate of St. Mary of The Springs (Ohio Dominican University) and received a master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Social Work. And was one of the first Certified Social Workers in the State of Ohio. She was retired from St. Stephen’s Community House where she served as Executive Director and Social Worker for 50 years. Working with children and developing programs to better their lives was her life’s work and setting up the Day Care Center at St. Stephen’s she felt was her greatest accomplishment. She was the first single woman in Franklin County to adopt a foreign child. Traveling and camping included trips to Ireland, Germany, Italy and Honduras. She loved restoring old houses, gardening, cooking and most of all needlecraft, having made hundreds of afghans she donated to various charities. Studying the family genealogy was a passion and she did many family trees for friends and relatives and as charity gifts. She volunteered at Our Lady of Peace school and St. Charles High School cafeterias. She loved singing and sang in many church and community choirs. She was active in the Funeral Ministry and St. Vincent de Paul at OLP and served as Eucharistic Ministry at several churches. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home Northwest Chapel 4661 Kenny Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Peace Church 20 E. Dominion Blvd. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers friends who wish may contribute in her memory to St. Stephen’s Community House 1500 E. 17th Ave. Columbus, OH 43219 or St. Vincent DePaul Society c/o Our Lady of Peace Church.
