Mary Ann McCarrick went peacefully home to God at the hour of the Angelus on the evening of October 22, 2024. She had received the holy sacraments of the Church and was surrounded by the presence, love and prayers of her family.
The fourth of five children, Mary Ann was born in Columbus, Ohio to Bernard and Anna Welsch Lang. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and St. Mary’s of the Springs College.
Mary Ann married Bill McCarrick and together they raised four daughters. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mary Ann (Ma) loved caring for her family, her home, celebrating holidays and playing board games and making puzzles with her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was planning the annual Christmas Eve Open House. This well loved tradition that continued for over 50 years became a treasured opportunity to connect with family and friends.
Mary Ann was a member of St. Patrick Parish for over 80 years. She served as a member and president of the St. Patrick Women’s Club and enjoyed chairing countless bake sales. She was also a member of the Elizabethan Guild. Through these organizations she developed many cherished friendships.
Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Bill; parents, brothers, Bernard (Dorothy), James (Jeanne), and an infant brother; sister, Martha Carter; sons-in-law, Doug Shiller and Jerry Cooley; nephews Phil and Richard Lang and dear friends, Ed and Joan Lucas.
She will be profoundly missed by her daughters, Molly McCarrick, Peggy Irion (Scott), Patty Cooley and Terre Orenchuk (John); beloved grandchildren, Mary Young (Josh), Cathy Cooley, Kelly Cooley, Matthew Cooley (Mary), Katie Nees (Josh); Bill Shiller (Julie), Julie Barnett (Billy); Joseph, Michael and John Paul Orenchuk; great grandchildren, James Young, Ellie and Charlie Barnett, and Callum Shiller; brother in law, John Carter; sister in law, Barb McCarrick; many nieces and nephews and cherished friends.
