Mary Ellen McComish, 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded in love by family, on Tuesday, September 15th. Mary Ellen, known by all as “Nanny”, was born in Struthers, Ohio May 2nd 1938, to the late Frank and Mary Bogan.
Nanny married her high school sweetheart, Jim, on November 18th 1961. They spent the majority of their married life in Toledo, OH raising their three children. Nanny was all about family - she lived and breathed for her 3 children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren (and 6 spouses) and 2 great-grandchildren. She was everybody’s #1 fan, and everybody was Nanny’s #1 fan.
Nanny was defined by her optimism and belief that “tomorrow will be a better day”, despite many medical ailments that she faced throughout her life. Nanny was one tough cookie.
Nanny had a unique ability to develop friendships with anyone she met, from all generations…always willing to lend a loving ear. Nanny was a friend, life coach, mentor, and inspiration to so many. She has touched countless lives and will be dearly missed.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mary Bogan, her husband James, brothers Frank and Robert Bogan, sister Margaret (Greg) Landolfi, and brother in law Al Johnson.
She is survived by her sisters Jeannie Ault, Janet Johnson, and her sisters in law Carole Bogan, Cecilia Bogan, Carolyn (Bernard) Stulberg, brothers in law John P. (Karen) McComish, Charles (Tobi) McComish, Ernst McComish and David (Beverly) McComish as well as her children Michael (Deanna) McComish, Christopher (Amy) McComish and Beth Ann (Dan) Gavin. Additionally survived by her grandchildren, Matt (Nikki) McComish, Sara (Matt) Connolly, Molly (Cory) Jarosi, Caitlin McComish, Scott McComish, Miller McComish, Mary Kate McComish Joseph (Shelby) Gavin, Ellie (Chris) McGee and Annie (Jordan) Kauffman and great grandchildren Micah McComish and Mary Gavin.
Family will receive friends of Mary Ellen at a visitation on Thursday September 17th from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home (4661 Kenny Rd, Columbus, OH 43220). A funeral will be held Friday September 18th at 10:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church (1899 McCoy Rd. Upper Arlington 43220).
