Mary Druhan Obituary

Mary Frances (Egger) Druhan, lovingly known as “Grandma” and “Nanny” to her grandchildren, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the age of 85, in the arms of her family and surrounded by love.

Mary was born on August 7, 1940, at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Lawrence E. Egger and Theresa Marie (McGuire) Egger. She was preceded in death by sisters Barbara Deegan and Jeanne Sauer.

Mary is survived by her daughter Beth “Bitsy” Gray (Bill), her sons Lawrence Druhan (Emily) and Stephen Druhan (Katie), and by grandchildren John Gray, Madelyn Gray, Lillian Gray, Ben Druhan, Abby Druhan, Ellie Druhan, Sarah Druhan, David Druhan, and Tessa Druhan. Also surviving Mary are her sister Patty Egger, brother Michael Egger (Patty), numerous nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.

Mary received most of her education in the Catholic system in Columbus, Ohio. She attended St. Leo’s grade school, graduated high school from St. Joseph Academy in 1958, and completed a three-year degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1961. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Psychology from Park College in 1986. Mary retired in 2001 from a 40-year career in nursing that spanned emergency medicine, pediatrics, alcohol and drug treatment, and AIDS counseling.

Mary made her Catholic Cursillo Weekend in 1974 and was faithful to Group Reunion, sharing her piety, study and action with dear friends Marg, Kathy and Ginny. She was also a Eucharistic minister at the St. Thomas More Newman Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Known for her lively wit and listening ear, Mary was always there with a paintbrush, a pan of Johnny Marzetti, or a ready pair of hands to do the dishes after a party. An avid collector of antiques, Mary loved to travel, cook, thrift, and cheer for the Buckeyes. Mary’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and wide circle of extended family and friends. She was interested in everything, from life events to jobs to what was for dinner the night before. Mary will be dearly missed.
