Marlene Kinsey Obituary

Marlene Jeanette (St. John) Kinsey, passed away October 3, 2021 at Kemper House Worthington, with her loving and devoted husband by her side. She was born June 27, 1934 in Algona, Iowa to Wilbur and Carrie (Lauritsen) St. John. She is preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and one grandchild. Marlene is survived by her husband of 66 years, William (Bill), and children Brenda (Chris) Heuing, David (Sandie) Kinsey, Dianne (Lou) Sacher, Lisa Kinsey, Laura (Abed) Karaze, and Jennifer (Mark) Crabtree; grandchildren Nicholas (Sarah Morgan) Fekete, Jeanette (Ben) Wimmers, Tony (Kesha) Kinsey, Trinity (McKenzie) Huffman, Breanne (James) Smutniak, L.J. Sacher, Carrie (Gary) Heinze, Katie Giffin, Leila (Sean) Dunn, Tallib Karaze, and Evan, Luke, Kinsey and Dane Crabtree; great-grandchildren Dorothy Fekete, Logan, Landon and Lexie Wimmers, Scarlett Kinsey, Kaya and Keely Huffman, William and Jessica Smutniak, Isaac Schaffer, and Liam and Tarek Dunn; and many other in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Marlene and Bill were married in Algona, Iowa. They moved to Columbus in 1959 and belonged to St. Matthias Parish for 30 years, before moving to Our Lady of Peace. In addition to her role as loving and supportive wife and mother, she also held a variety of other jobs, including her most cherished job as secretary at St. Matthias School, retiring in 1996. Marlene was an active member of the North American Rockwell Arrowettes, the Worthington Women’s Club, and the Scandinavian Club of Columbus. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles and bowling.  Marlene used a unique vocabulary to describe the amount of food or beverage she wanted. Whether it was a “sliver” of pie, a “nip” of her favorite ice cream, or just a “skosh” of wine, Marlene found great joy in the simple things. She loved to tell people she was tough because she had six kids. Her spunky, fun, and feisty nature kept us all in line.
