This memorial website is in memory of Mark Gilbert. He is remembered for being a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. We hope family and friends will honor him by consciously choosing to enjoy life as much as he did. He loved to laugh and maintained his sense of humor throughout his final days. We will miss his smile, his kindness and his presence, but we will take comfort in his memory and learn from his example.
Anyone who ever met him will agree that he wasn’t impressed by words or promises, unless they were backed by action. Known for his attention to detail, he believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right. He also believed in honoring our commitment to each other and to God.
In a final message to his grandchildren, he wrote: “I hope you will remember to always hold your family close, keep God in your heart, your Catholic faith in your life, and work hard every day. Try to be better tomorrow than you were today. And, above all, remember it’s God, family and country.”
Mark served his community through a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. After more than 30 years of service, he retired from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and embarked on a second career as a pilot. Although, he always said his favorite job was being a grandparent.
Mark is survived by brothers Larry (Margie) Gilbert and Gary McKeever, Carol Gilbert, daughters Melissa Thomas (Ben) and Amy Ching (Waio), and grandchildren: James, Charlotte, Gabriel, Kaya & Makena.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 795 Havens Corners Road. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, to consider donations to St. Matthew Apostolic Church in Gahanna, Ohio or to St. Francis DeSales High School Football program (Columbus, OH), in support of his passion for football.
