Marilyn Fichtelman Obituary

Marilyn Louise Fichtelman, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2020. She spent her final days surrounded by her family and friends until she went to join her husband, Willis L. Fichtelman, who preceded her in death in 2007.

Marilyn was a loving and devoted wife, and a proud and wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was deeply loved by her family and will be dearly missed. Marilyn had a unique ability to develop friendships with anyone she met. Always a good listener, she touched countless lives and will be fondly remembered by many friends.

Marilyn was born on November 28, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio, and was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy. Marilyn worked as Assistant Buyer at Lazarus and later had the privilege of being a stay-at-home Mom.

She was a devout Catholic who practiced and lived her life accordingly.   She was a faithful member at St. Catharine Catholic Church for over 63 years and a member of the Golden Age Club. She developed close friendships through her neighborhood’s Tripoly Club and she enjoyed playing euchre at the Villas at St. Therese where she met many wonderful friends. Her other passions included attending bible study prayer group, bridge, nightly “game show” ladies group, making cookies for all who visited her home, and long conversations with family and friends. Always a wonderful host, no one left Marilyn’s home without a bag of York peppermint patties.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents Walter & Kathryn Groff, husband of 59 ½ years Willis, and daughter Nancy.

She is survived by son Robert (Mary Beth) Fichtelman, Phyllis (Larry) Nentwich; grandchildren Steven and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Fichtelman, Andy (Emily) and Kathryn Nentwich; great grandchildren Isabella, Grace, Rosalie, and Lola Fichtelman, and Oliver Nentwich; many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in her memory to Special People In Catholic Education (SPICE), 500 S. Gould Rd., Columbus, OH 43209.

Friends may call Wednesday from 10-10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine Catholic Church, 500 South Gould Road where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m.  Internment Service to follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel on the grounds of St. Joseph Cemetery.
