Marilyn Ann Spires

Marilyn Ann Spires passed away January 10, 2022 at age 85 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born March 3, 1936 in Lancaster, Ohio. Marilyn is preceded in death by parents Carl and Mary Margaret Spires, brother Ted Spires and sister Carole Schlueb. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Tom Schlueb, nephew Matt (Julianne) Schlueb, three nieces, Terri (Charlie) Schwallie, Kathleen (Joe) Garber and Laurie Schlueb (Chuck Wayland), as well as eight grandnephews and one grandniece. Godmother and aunt second-to-none providing decades of sleepovers, trips, thoughtfully-selected gifts and perfect attendance at games and recitals. Graduate of College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL and first grade teacher in the Catholic schools for over forty years. Loved playing basketball and stickball as a child, then softball and golf as an adult. Best known for her encyclopedic knowledge of sports and unwavering support for the Fighting Irish, Cubbies and Cleveland Indians. Travels to Mexico enriched her later years, as did teacher reunions, a ladies’ euchre group and Bexley Activities Club outings. Devoted member of the St. Anthony of Pauda Chapel where she practiced her deep faith and cherished many friendships. Requiem Mass at 10am on Wednesday, January 19 at St. Anthony of Pauda Chapel, 2596 Billingsley Rd. Friends and family may call Monday, January 24 from 10-12 at Egan Ryan Funeral Home, 403 E. Broad St. The rosary will be said at 12pm with burial to follow at New Lexington Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 197 East Gay Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
