Marie Peters Obituary

Marie Peters, age 96, left this world peacefully Friday March 30th, 2017 after a stroke.

She was born to Erby and Nora Johnson on January 31st, 1922.  Her parents, her beloved husband Leon Peters, her brother Bill Johnson, her daughter Amy Thomas and her grandson Peter Cameruca, preceded Marie in death.  Marie is survived by her children: Melinda (Frank) Todaro, Chris (Dan Cohee) Peters, Patty Peters, Andy (Leni) Peters, Robbie Cameruca, Karen (Steve) Ellingson, by her twelve grandchildren: Shannon Thomas, Lara (Thomas) Gresham, Miranda Todaro, Jordan Todaro, Christie (Cohee) Kelly, David Camerucci, Joe Cameruca, Colin Ellingson, Nathan Ellingson, Ryan Ellingson, Amanda Peters and Anna Peters and by great grandchildren, and a large extended family.

Marie’s family moved to Columbus from Montgomery, West Virginia during World War II and she was one of the first punch card operators at Curtis-Wright Corporation, helping the war effort.

Marie was an active member of the community and was also a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory church where she served as a volunteer.  She volunteered with many organizations over the years and most recently with The University Women’s Club (UWC) of The Ohio State University, where she met monthly with the UWC Toymakers at the Grandview Public Library to make stuffed toys for ill or injured children.  She volunteered for Buckeye Bargains to raise money for the UWC to benefit The Ohio State University Scholarship Fund.  Besides volunteering, Marie also served in leadership roles with The Ohio State University Faculty Women’s Club and had served as President of the club.

Marie was an avid reader and rarely went a day without a book or Nook in her hand.  She loved entertaining, and was renowned for her hospitality and delicious holiday dinners.  Marie had a warm and loving personality and welcomed all children with open arms.  When her children were younger, she set up a wading pool in the back yard most summer days so the children in the neighborhood could drop by to cool off.  Marie loved to watch sports, her favorites being Ohio State Football and the golf channel.  She also loved to travel and greatly enjoyed visiting Hilton Head Island and the Smokey Mountains.

The family extends their gratitude to Kobacker House for providing a safe landing for her final days.
