Loretta Buffer, age 89, passed away June 15, 2026. She was born on May 14, 1937 in Chicago, IL to the late Michael and Marion Lomasz. Loretta received her Bachelor’s Degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. She attended graduate school at DePaul University where she met her husband Jim. They then moved to Upper Arlington and she later received her Master’s Degree and PhD from The Ohio State University where she also taught Gerontology. She was a longtime member of St. Agatha Parish. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Buffer; brother, Jerry Lomasz; sisters Mary Ann Snarski and Alice Fryzlewicz; granddaughters, Jenna and Laura Buffer. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Lisa) Buffer, Fr. Thomas Buffer, James (Heather) Buffer and Karen (Scott) Rinehart; grandchildren, Zachary Buffer, Clayton (Cheryl) Buffer, Sarah (Jordan) Wilson, Alison (TJ) Mossman, Maria and Catie Buffer, Morgan (Grace) Rinehart and Melanie (Joseph Siegel) Rinehart; great-grandchildren, Mae and Annie Mossman and Harvey Wilson; sister, Ruth Maher; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday, June 18 from 4-7 pm at EGAN-RYAN DOWNTOWN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad Street where a Prayer Service will begin at 6:45pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 19 at 10am at St. Cecelia Church, 434 Norton Road. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Agatha Church.
