Larry Crimmel Obituary

Larry Burt Crimmel, age 85 passed away peacefully on August 14, 2021.  He was born in Marietta, Ohio, son of Burt and Druzilla (Chalfant) Crimmel. He was the youngest of 4 children. He is preceded in death by his brother John Crimmel, sisters Eileen Storms and Mildred Coplin, and nephew Scott Coplin.  Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen (Hankinson) Crimmel; children, Orlando Burt (Leesa) Crimmel and Mitzi (Steve) Gresock; grandchildren, Madigan, Rylee, Mary Kate, and Donnelee Crimmel; Chase and Carson Gresock.  Larry graduated from Marietta High School in 1954. One of his fondest memories was being a part of the 1954 championship football team.  Larry was affectionately known by many of his high school classmates as Bugsy. While in high school Larry had the opportunity to serve as Mayor of Marietta for a day, under the guidance of Mayor Benjamin Cain. After graduating from high school, Larry attended The Ohio State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture.  After college, he and Mary Ellen went to Las Vegas and got married.  They lived in Balboa Island, California during the early years of their marriage.  While there he enjoyed spending time with his nephews Doug, Chuck and Steve Crimmel.  He frequently returned to Marietta where he liked spending time with his nephew, John Storms. After returning to Ohio, Larry continued his architectural career.  It is fun to drive around Columbus and look at the many buildings and houses he had a part in designing. Larry volunteered many hours in helping to remodel churches in the central Ohio area.  He truly left his mark. He was extremely creative and used this talent in his chosen career and in drawing pictures of his grandchildren. Aside from being creative, Larry was a kind, calm and gentle man. One of Larry’s strongest attributes was his integrity.  He could solidify a deal with a simple handshake.

Special thanks to the staff at Willowbrook and Heartland Hospice. Larry’s family would also like to extend sincerest appreciation to the respite care provided by Hallie Johnson and Paul Bryan. Hallie and Paul truly touched our lives with the dignified and gentle care they provided for Larry.
