Kurt Hugo Weiland

Kurt Weiland, age 76, died June 9th. He was born on April 1, 1946 to Hugo Welland and Norma Elsass in Dayton, Ohio. He attended Wartburg College, Kent Sate and The Ohio State University earning MA, BA, and JD degrees. He was in the Army from 1968 to1970. He married Eglé Gatins  in 1980, and they had three children, Martin, Christian, and Beatrice. along with his spouse, Kurt is survived by his sister Marsha, (Bill Nickels), his brother Mark, (Brenda Weiland), nephew Joel Nickels, (Carrie Sieh), granddaughter Gala, and many cousins. 
Kurt was a lawyer at the Department of Insurance, General Counsel at Century Surety Company, and in 
private practice. He founded countless non profit organizations including the Bexley Public Radio Foundation.

Kurt will be remembered by his family and many friends as a gentle and kind man. He was appreciated for his intelligence, wit, and his irreverent sense of humor, his love of laughter, and the telling of jokes and tall tales. He was an esoteric collector of books, stamps, fruit stickers, objects and other quirky memorabilia. He haunted flea markets and thrift shops in search of the unusual find. He loved playing the piano and for years his legendary  “Musicale” soirées celebrated the gathering of friends and neighbors to sing and play music. Life with Kurt was never boring, he will be greatly missed by all who loved him. May he rest in peace.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, June 16th from 5:00-7:00 pm at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home 403 E Broad St. The Funeral will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E. Main St., Bexley on Friday, June 17 at 11:00 am. with Private burial to follow. Contributions in Kurt’s memory can be sent to Christ Lutheran Church, or for the organ fund at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E.
