Katherine Bey Obituary

Katherine A. Bey (Mikolajcik) was born August 4, 1956, in Puerto Rico. You could say her love for the ocean started in childhood, being raised by the beach. A graduate of Whetstone High School, Kathy perused early childhood education at Rio Grande College, where she met her husband, Brendan. The two settled in Dublin, OH, where they raised their two daughters, Michelle and Katie.

Kathy cherished time with her young daughters and often volunteered at their school events, shuttling them to and from extracurricular activities. She was an extraordinary cook, always searching the grocery store for the best ingredients. Decades of holidays, birthdays and family gatherings were filled with her dishes. Her specialty was her Sunday red sauce. Kathy loved to travel, specially to Siesta Key. Many summers as a family were spent at the Sarasota Surf and Racquet Club, collecting sand dollars and reading a beach book.

Kathy had the unique ability to make things in the life that much more special. She kept a beautiful garden, with hanging baskets of flowers and the most cherry tomatoes you’ve ever seen. She loved jewelry; beautiful ornate earrings and stones from her various travels. The middle console of her car was guaranteed to have an iced tea. She enjoyed music from many genres and loved the movies.  A shrewd card player, Kathy could hang with the best at Euchre and enjoyed the company of her card club.

She is survived by her husband Brendan, two daughters Michelle Thissen (Nic) and Katelyn Bey (Zach), sister Mary Kaminski (Matt), and many nieces and nephews. Kathy had a very special love and close relationship with her nieces Colleen and Maggie.  We like to think Kathy is tanning in the sun, with a good book in her hand, smiling down on all of us.

Kathy’s husband, Brendan, wanted to share the following special poem:

To My wife, Kathy, with love

I did not look, but then I found you.

You comforted me after my mother’s passing.

Living with you was as comfortable as I could be.

You stood by me as I stood by you.

Complementary two.

Bravely you endured your pain.

God called you home.

Peaceful, now at last.

My heart is with you always, my love.

-Brendan
