Judith Hardy

Judith Hardy, passed away on March 18, 2024 at Mohun Health Care Center in Columbus, OH.  She was born on February 8, 1942 to the late Fredrick I. Hardy and Lois M. Hoyle in Auburn, MA. 

She received degrees from University of Connecticut in Physical Education and Miami University of OH in Gerontology.  Judy taught at St. Mary’s High School beginning in the early 1970’s in New Haven CT where she met the Dominican Sisters and began her long association with the Dominican Sisters of Peace.   

After her teaching career, she earned a Masters in Gerontology and worked for the Ohio Department of Aging until her retirement.  She was a long-time Dominican Associate, a member of the “Joyful Mysteries” group and served in many capacities in the Associates’ formation and development.  Judy also served many years on the Dominican Sisters of Peace Eco-Justice Committee and was a long-time volunteer and supporter of Shepherd’s Corner. 

She was a lover of animals supporting many causes as well as caring for her own feline companions.   

Judy is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Fredrick I. Hardy, Jr. and twin Jonathan Hardy and good friend Joann Daniell.

Judy leaves behind her chosen Belanger family, Anne and Sister Jane Belanger and many Dominican Associates and Sisters, especially Sisters Marguerite Chandler and Rosie VanBuren, good friend, Joannn Daniell’s sons Kerry and Dennis Dobbins; a nephew and several nieces.  Judy was well cared for by the staff of Mohun Health Care Center in her last days.   

Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH, with Fr. Denis Kigozi presiding. Lunch following. Private interment. Donations in Judy’s memory can be made to Dominican Sisters of Peace Ecology Centers and Cat Welfare Association of Columbus.
