John Robert Farley, Age 75 passed away at Grant Medical Center on January 29th, 2024.
John was born March 19th, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio. He was one of three sons to Bob and Helen Farley.
John grew up in Eastmoor, and attended St. Catharine school, and graduated from Bishop Hartley High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Miami University. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling, as well as his PHD in Social Studies Education from The Ohio State University.
John worked for Columbus public schools for forty years in various roles including: teacher, counselor, and building/district administrator. John finished his working career as the Executive Director of the Education Council.
John’s music brought people together. Many knew John from Plank’s Bier Garten, where he and Ray Pauken played piano and banjo each Saturday night for over twenty years.
John’s smile and sense of humor drew people to him. Every Fourth of July, John could be seen marching with The Fidels in the Doodah parade.
John loved his family and his friends. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Chris, his two sons, Ryan and Sean (Shawne), grandchildren, Alex Rose, Spencer, Addison, Lincoln, Alden, and Ellis. His two brothers Tom and Steve (Kristine).
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 13th at 10:00 am at St. Catharine Church, 500 S. Gould Road, Columbus, Ohio. Celebration of life to follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association and The Joint Organization for Inner City Needs (578 E. Main St. 43215).
