John Kasson Carter, 86, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on September 16th, 2025.
John was born in Columbus, Ohio April 22nd, 1939 to the late Willard Kasson and Lenore O’Brien Carter. John is survived by his daughter Nora (Calvert), two granddaughters (Isabel and Phoebe), and cousin, Sallie Carter Stone (Leigh) as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Martha (Lang) who passed away in 2015. John was a man of grace, poise, compassion, and broad perspective of the world. He had a wonderfully wicked and sarcastic sense of humor which led to many hilarious moments and always fun times!
An accomplished pianist, professor, and pedagogue, John devoted his professional life to music, teaching others, and directing multiple choirs within the Catholic Diocese of Columbus. John loved his daughter Nora fiercely and they were best friends until the very end. He was an avid animal lover (especially dogs and horses) and would have been perfectly content living on a farm with as many rescue dogs as possible. Endless thanks goes to the caregivers, doctors, nurses, aides, residents, and friends who loved and cared for John at Ohio Living West-Minster Thurber up until his passing. A special thank you to Gail Greenley, head of Ohio Living Hospice, whose support and kindness were boundless.
