Joan Marie Kennedy Ensign, age 94, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor. Joan was active all her life with various schools, religious churches and civic organizations serving as president, treasurer, or secretary in each. She was a retired gerontologist. Avid traveler to Ireland, Israel, Hungary, Paris, Spain, China, Nova Scotia, and Canada. Made friends with people all over the world and wrote to and received letters from these friends for years. Joan loved to entertain and was known as a very gracious and talented hostess organizing many parties and banquets in her home.
Preceded in death by her husband, William J. Ensign (former Mayor of the city of Toledo, Ohio ‘69-71); parents, brother, several brothers- in- law and sisters- in- law, cousins, one nephew, and son–in-law. Survived by her children, Maria (Rick) Sulewski, Kimberly (Joseph) Mestnick, Christopher (Terry) Ensign, Joel Ensign, Madonna Van Fossen, Thomas (Tracy) Ensign; grandchildren Shannon and Caroline Sulewski, Ryan Ensign, Erikson, Chelsea, Dylan, and Rawley Van Fossen, Keri Ensign, Justin and Jordan Ensign. Multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Friends may call Wednesday, October 27, at the EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad St. from 10:00 -12:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel, 6440 S. High St. on the grounds of St. Joseph Cemetery. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
