Jean Edith Crites, 95, passed away on November 21, 2020. She was born on July 6, 1925, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Harry and Mildred (Waters) Wellnitz. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles; son, Joe; twin brother, Jack Wellnitz; sisters Evelyn Reeder and Irene Altman; father-and mother-in-law William and Margaret; and numerous in-laws. She is survived by her children, David (Kay), John (Jenny), Carole, Donny, Julee (Alan) Hohler and Andy (Wendy); grandchildren Brad (Jenny), Ben, Keely, Kenny, Emily, Sam, Mandy, Lindsey and Ana; great-grandchildren Ally, Abby and Maddy; sister, Judy Baltimore; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was a graduate of Holy Family and had a successful career in real estate. She was witty, outgoing, fun-loving and never met a stranger. She had a special love for her home on Lake Erie and her family’s cabin on the Ottawa River, where she would spend her days swimming and beating her family at cornhole. Her hobbies included baking, bowling, playing cards, rooting for Cleveland sports (especially the Browns), and hosting weekly Ohio State parties with no shortage of White Castle sliders. She was a true animal lover, always with a dog in tow and a treat in her pocket. She also had a love for elephants, collecting many themed trinkets over the years. She was one-of-a-kind, and those who knew her can agree that their lives are better because of it. Due to COVID-19, there will be a private funeral mass at St. Andrew Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Her family will host a celebration in her honor as soon as it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, please contribute in her memory to the World Wildlife Fund, Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research or your local humane society.
