Jane Callahan, age 81 passed away December 10, 2025 at OSU Wexner Medical Center surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with MDS. Jane was born on October 25, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio.
Jane met the love of her life, Mike, in 1964 while both of them were coaching at St. Agatha Catholic School. Jane and Mike married in 1966 and found joy in raising and coaching their three children. Jane was employed as an office manager throughout her working career and eventually semi-retired from The Blade Manufacturing Company, owned by her husband, Mike and then her son Marc. Jane and Mike “retired” to Sarasota and spent many happy years at Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club where they met and created life-long friendships.
Mike and Jane enjoyed traveling and visited Ireland, San Francisco, New York City, Maine, Boston, Pebble Beach, Key West and other memorable locales.
Jane’s parents, George and Katie Holzapfel raised Jane in the Catholic faith and she attended St. Mary of the Springs Academy and was a proud graduate of the class of 1962.
Jane was involved in TWIGS of Children’s Hospital #108 for many years. Jane also was a volunteer at Riverside Methodist Hospital in the Hearth Cath Lab.
Jane enjoyed all sports and played tennis and golf into her 70’s and 80’s. Most recently she truly cherished her time with her friends, the Tuesday Golf Ladies whether on the course or breakfasts at Bob Evans during the off season.
Watching and traveling for her kids and grandkids sports was a true passion of her life. Her calendar in the busiest of years was color coded by grandchild and many times attended multiple games a day. Jane and Mike were such regulars on the sidelines that they became friends with many of the other parents and grandparents of the players.
There was nothing that Jane didn’t know how to fix or would at least try to fix. Her tool collection, including the tool box in her car, was legendary.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband Michael (Mike Callahan) her parents George and Katie Holzapfel, father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Mary Callahan, brother-in-law and sisterin-law Tom and Beth Callahan, son-in-law Tony Albarano, and nephew Andy Holzapfel. Jane is survived her children Michelle Callahan; Matt and Suzi Callahan; and Marc and Toni Callahan. The true lights of her life were her grandchildren, Erin, Ryan and Colin Chancey; Danny, Katlyn (Joe Schoettmer), Casey and Mike Callahan; Sydni (Jake Bruening), Joseph, Bridget and Ellie Callahan; and great granddaughter Jane Taylor Schoettmer, her princess. Jane is additionally survived by her loving siblings, Ruthie and John Fortkamp; Mary Allen; and George and Ann Holzapfel and numerous nieces and nephews.
