James T. Jones, Sr.

James T Jones, Sr. age 78, of Columbus passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Kobacker House with his family by his side. 

James was a devout Catholic and a Member of St. Matthias Parish for 52 years. He was born in Columbus, OH on 11/14/1945 to the late Tom and Laura (Agreisti) Jones. 

James was a 1964 Graduate of Columbus West High School. He then proudly served the United States Navy as a first class petty officer during the Vietnam war. James received his degree in Civil Engineering from Franklin University in 1978. He then worked as a Civil Engineer for 42 years at Ohio Bell, Ameritech and At&T. Above all things, his greatest accomplishment was being a “GRANDPA”. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary F. (Mathews) Jones whom he married on 10/24/1970. He is also survived by his sons, James (Deanna) Jones and Matthew (Stephanie) Jones; and a daughter, Molly (Anthony) Price. Nine grandchildren, Clay, Annabelle, Rocco, Blake, Thomas, Daniel, Niko, David and Lane; a sister, Carol; and a brother, Kenneth (Amy) Jones. Brother-in-laws, Ralph (MaryKay), Joseph (Barbara), James and Michael (Barbara) Mathews; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Ralph and Frances Mathews; brothers- in-law, Jon Mathews and Robert Richmond; sisters- in-law, Marsha Mathews and Delores Richmond; nephews, Otter Berk and Dalton Richmond; and nephew-in-law, Adam Orebauah. 

Family and friends may call on Friday, May 10 from 3-7 p.m at the EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME - NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 Kenny Road where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m at St. Matthias Church, 1582 Ferris Road, Columbus, Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
