James Jarrett Obituary

James Michael Jarrett, known to most as Jimmy, passed away on April 21, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio, after a courageous battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 68 years old. Born on January 4, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio, he spent his life in the city he loved, building lasting friendships, offering steady kindness, and leaving behind a legacy marked by warmth, humor, and intelligence. He was the kind of person who made others feel welcome from the moment they met him. He had a natural gift for putting people at ease and greeted everyone with a "God bless you". Those who knew him best will remember him as kind, funny, and intelligent, a man whose presence brought comfort and whose words often carried both wisdom and charm. He had a great love for books and was a collector of old books dating back to the 1800's. His favorite pastime was visiting the Worthington Public Library where he was surrounded by books he wanted to study.  He was deeply rooted in Columbus, where he was born, raised, and remained throughout his life. His connection to the city was more than geographical. It was personal and enduring. Jimmy possessed a sharp mind and a curious nature.  Jimmy showed a quiet strength that became even more evident during his illness. Facing ALS with courage and acceptance, he met each challenge with grace, never complaining but with great sadness. Though the disease gradually changed many aspects of daily life, it did not diminish the essence of who he was. His kindness remained constant, his humor never fully faded, and his intelligence continued to shine through in the way he approached each day. He inspired his sister with his unshakable perseverance to cooperate with the advice of his many doctors. Jimmy will be remembered for the many ways he enriched the lives of others. He had a sincere appreciation for the people around him and a rare ability to make ordinary moments feel meaningful.  He lived with authenticity and left behind memories that will be treasured for years to come. He is mourned deeply by all who knew and loved him. While his passing leaves a profound emptiness, his memory endures in the stories shared, the lessons learned, and the countless moments of joy he created. The life of James Michael Jarrett stands as a testament to the enduring power of kindness, the importance of humor, and the lasting value of a thoughtful and intelligent heart. A life so fully and generously lived does not end with death. He now rests in the arms of Jesus Christ and enjoys a perfect spiritual body that works. Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Jarrett, his mother, Emily Jarrett died 3 days after Jimmy, he is succeeded in death by his sister Roni Scammell, brother Stephen V. Jarrett, nieces and nephews.
