James Allen

Dr. James W. Allen, age 82, Saturday, July 30 in Los Angeles, CA.  Survived by his wife of 30 years Linda S. Metzner, Los Angeles, CA. Linda and Jim had a wonderful and loving relationship sharing many family moments together including traveling, hiking and playing golf. Preceded in death by parents Robert W. and Agnes A. Allen and brother Major John R. Allen. Survived by his son Josh Allen; Linda's sons David Metzner and Jeff Metzner; sister, Lynne (Rich) Dalgewicz; brother Jeffrey P Allen,  many nieces and nephews and much adored grandchildren. A 1957 graduate St. Charles Preparatory School and The Ohio State University where he was a member of the 1960 National Championship Basketball Team. Graduate of University of Guadalajara Medical School. Member of Varsity O.  Jim’s medical career included working as an emergency room physician at Mt. Carmel Hospital and several hospitals in the Los Angeles area when he moved there in 1985. Jim lived life with passion and love from his 50 years of practicing medicine to his love of his family, friends and sports. Jim's love for sports and activities included running in 25 marathons, iron man competition in Hawaii and numerous golf tournaments.  Memorial Service Saturday, August 20 at 10am at St. Charles Preparatory Chapel, 2010 E. Broad St. Reception following at Cavello Center at St. Charles. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Jim's memory to The James Allen Family Scholarship Fund, St Charles Preparatory School, 2010 East Broad St. Columbus, Ohio 43209 or The Sierra Club.
