Guy Francis Lawler went to heaven on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Born May 14, 1937 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, to Grace and Howard Church. He was adopted by his Uncle Francis and Aunt Maude Lawler at the age of 8. He attended many catholic grade schools in Columbus and graduated from St Charles Preparatory School in 1954. He literally skated through work at Smith Brothers Hardware during high school and his early career. He met and married the love of his life, Karen Leona Geiger on June 6, 1959 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. They started their family on Gears Ave and welcomed their daughter Theresa Ann in 1960. The family then moved to Reynoldsburg where Guy and Karen were founding members of St. Pius X Catholic Church. In 1961, they welcomed their son David Keith. Guy left Smith Brothers and worked in purchasing at The Ohio State University. Their third child, Patrick Andrew, joined their family in 1965. Thinking their family was complete, they welcomed their only planned child (as Guy always said) Jeffrey Lee in 1973. Guy continued his career at Ohio State and retired as the Assistant Director of Purchasing. He returned to Ohio State University Research Foundation for another 10 years before retiring again.
Guy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Grace and Howard, his adopted parents, Francis and Maude Lawler, and step brother Jack Nelson. Survived by wife, Karen, children Theresa (Dcn. Charles) Waybright, David (Karen), Patrick (Lisa), Jeffrey (Jaime), 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Three things that were important to Guy were Faith, Family and Friends. His faith was shown thru his service as an Eucharist Minister, being a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Pius Church and volunteering at Joseph’s Coat. Guy started St. Pius Bingo and ran it for many years but will always be remembered for his rendition of Rubber Ducky at the St. Pius Variety Show.
His family was the center of his world. He loved and supported his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their endeavors. Some of his favorite family traditions were putting up his Christmas village every year with the train, dressing up in his Santa hat and passing out presents, monthly family gatherings and Tuesdays with Granny and Grandpa. They enjoyed many years with their good friends the Kings, Helms, Wilhelms and Keefners.
Visitations will be Wednesday, October 13 4-7pm at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 14th at 10am at St Catharine of Sienna Church. In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St Charles Preparatory School Class of 1954 in memory of Guy Lawler.
