George Blubaugh Obituary

George was delivered into the loving arms of his earthly mother on October 16, 1931 and into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on August 3, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Hilary Blubaugh and mother, Henrietta (Schlairet) (Blubaugh) Moushey, by his sister, Marjorie (Blubaugh) Selby, and by his cherished wife of 65 years, Jean Ann (Moushey) Blubaugh.

He is survived by his children, Stephen (Vicki) Blubaugh and their children, Kara, Peter and Nathaniel Blubaugh, Michael (Jennifer) and son, Joshua (Brittany) and their sons, Daniel, and Jackson, Ezekiel and daughter, Rebecca Blubaugh, Thomas (Kimberly) Blubaugh and his sons, William (Jennifer) Blubaugh and Benjamin (Amanda) Blubaugh, James (Kristie Swihart) Blubaugh and their daughters, Lindsey (Shannon Schneider) Swihart and Courtney Swihart, Julie Blubaugh, Susan (Wiliam) Mitchell and their daughters,, Ella, Molly and Frances Mitchell, Kevin (Gretchen) Blubaugh and their sons, Gunnar and Jacob Blubaugh. He is also survived by his two brothers, Kenneth (Caroline) Blubaugh and Thomas (Judy) Blubaugh, and many nieces and nephews.

George spent his professional life in the transportation industry, first with E. A. Schlairet Transfer Co., rising to the rank of VP of Operations, then with Terminal Transport Co. as Regional Operations Manager, then as VP of Operations with Columbus Retail Merchants Delivery, then with Duff Truck Lines as VP of Operations and finally with U.S Cargo and Courier Service as VP of Marketing. He was awakened spiritually in 1967 when he made a Cursillo weekend. It made such an impression on him that he became a member of fourteen Cursillo/Cum Christo weekend teams, serving as Rector of four of them. He was Diocesan Lay Director of the Cursillo Movement for two years in the 1970's and Diocesan Lay Director of the Cum Christo Movement for two years in the 1990's. He became involved with the Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) movement in the 1970's, was on the team of TEC No. 1, and served on five more teams, usually as its Lay Director. He was always active in parish activities, both at Mt. Vernon St. Vincent and then for more than fifty years at Our Lady of Victory parish in Columbus where he co-chaired with his wife, Jean, the program known as Christ Renews His Parish for three years. He was a catechist in the RCIA program for almost forty years, proclaimed Scripture as a lector for more than fifty years and served as parish lector trainer for many years, and participated in many other parish activities. George joined the Knights of Columbus in Mt. Vernon in 1956, was Past Grand Knight of Columbus Victory Council 12900 and in 2012 was named the Columbus Chapter Knight of the Year. He was a long-time member of the Downtown Serra Club of Columbus, serving as President for three and a half years. A fiercely loyal son of Notre Dame, Class of 1953, George was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War era, served as Voting Location Manager for 18 consecutive elections and was a ten gallon Red Cross blood donor. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home 403 E. Broad St. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Victory Church 1559 Roxbury Lane. Burial St. Luke's Cemetery Danville, OH. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in his memory to Catholic Relief Services.
