Fred Kuhn Obituary

Fred William Kuhn, aged 92, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025 at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. He was born July 21, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio, to Fred W. Kuhn, Sr. and Mary (Dempsey) Kuhn.

Fred grew up in Columbus and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School—Class of 1950. He married his true love, Nancy Sullivan, in 1953. He attended Ohio State University and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954. He worked as a draftsman for Rockwell International and eventually settled in a career as a salesman for Capital Paper Company. After a very successful career of 30+ years and many, many sales awards, he retired to enjoy his love of travel and his many and wide-ranging interests.

About those interests….where to begin. Fred was a singularly talented man who could succeed in and have fun with just about everything he tried to do. He took an interest in anything and everything his family and friends cared about and was unfailingly kind to everyone he met along his long journey.

One of his primary passions was the game of golf. He loved the game, the fresh air, and the camaraderie. He never missed a chance to get out on the course no matter where or when. Fred was a life long lover of music. He was a singer and member of the Columbus Maennechor for many years and played the ukulele and guitar. He loved all music and especially loved playing and singing “silly” songs for his children and granddaughter. He loved woodworking, especially miniatures. He built an heirloom doll house for his granddaughter, and every year at Christmas, he and his daughter, Lisa, hand crafted festive decorations as family gifts. Fred was a member of the Charity Newsies for 50 years and believed strongly in its mission of giving every child warm clothes and a good start in school. He worked in their distribution center taking applications, helped staff events, and led the James Road corner team every December selling papers.

Fred and Nancy traveled to many places around the world and loved taking cruises. One of his very favorite destinations was Ireland. He is undoubtedly playing 18 holes somewhere as fresh and green as there right now.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Nancy Kuhn, his children Julie Ehrhart, Lisa Kuhn, and Michael Kuhn, daughter-in law Shelley Kuhn, granddaughter, Lindsay Ehrhart (Brian Burrell), and great-granddaughter, Eleanor. Also missing him dearly are his brothers, Thomas Kuhn (Kathy) and Robert Kuhn (Angie) and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14 from 4-6 pm at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220. A brief memorial service will start at 6 pm.
