Emil R. Shaw, aged 100, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1926, in Senecaville, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Anna Shaw, parents Michael and Anna (Pavlov) Olshawsky, and brothers Mike and Joe Shaw, and George and Andy Olshawsky. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and neighbor.
Emil served his country in “the Big War” as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from May 1944-November 1946. He was stationed in the Philippines, where he discovered orchids and began a lifelong love of growing them. Emil graduated from The Ohio State University in 1952 and retired from TRW after a 30+ year career as an engineer. He was a beekeeper and avid gardener, spending many happy hours tending to fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and his greenhouse. He loved to learn and teach bits of knowledge – from foreign languages to scientific principles – and he was known for his mischievous sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lynn (Thomas) Gilbert, grandson Frederick Gilbert, brother Charlie (Karen) Olshawsky, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Peace Church, 20 E. Dominion Blvd. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
