Elma (Gliatta) Gocek

Elma (Gliatta) Gocek, 98 passed away peacefully at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor on Thursday, September 22, 2022.  Elma was born on October 15, 1923 in Canton, Ohio to the late Bartlomeo Gliatta and the late Raffaela (Scrima) Gliatta in Canton, Ohio.  

Elma was a wonderful, giving and caring person but could be a force to be reckoned with.  She was a very faithful woman who said the rosary every day.  Elma loved animals and loved to go to the park and walk her furry friends.  Elma was widowed at age 31 and had to raise her two small children by herself.  In an era where most women did not work outside of the home, Elma learned how to drive and took on the corporate world.  She started her career at Shanafelt Manufacturing and ended her career as a corporate secretary at White Castle Systems.  Elma adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Elma was a giver and was always willing to donate to anyone in need.  

Elma is survived by her loving daughter, Monica Merriman (Late Don) of Millersport, Ohio; grandchildren Nichole Cavinee (Brian) of Pickerington, Ohio, Brandon Merriman (Amber) of Virginia and Brent Merriman (Caitlin) of Worthington, Ohio along with her great grandchildren Sophie, Teddy, Stella, Evelyn, Howie, and Jack. Elma was proceeded in death by her wonderful son, Joseph Gocek, Jr., her husband, Joseph Gocek, her sister, Rose McGill, and her brothers Nick Gliatta and Leonard Gliatta. 

Friends and family may call Monday, September 26, 2022 from 9-10 a.m. at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor, 5199 East Broad Street. Columbus, OH .  Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following at 10:00 a.m. Covid protocols are in place at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor. (masks required) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory to Mother Angeline McCrory Manor.
